The following is a range of beers that have been produced by the Wig and Pen in the past. With any luck, they may make they way back to the 'taps' some time in the future!

 

[Dark Star Lager]

A traditional Munich dark lager. Brewed with large quantities of chocolate malt and German Hersbrucker hops. An excellent session larger with a long hoppy finish.

Served at 2 – 4oC, Cask Conditioning
Key Flavours: Dark Chocolate
Alcohol %: 4.7 – 5.0%

 

 

[Aviator Doppel Bock]

A luxurious strong Bavarian style bock beer brewed with lavish quantities of Munich malt, pale lager malt and noble German hops to give a beer of unsurpassed malty richness. This beer is one of the strongest beers sold regularly on draught in Australia.

Served at 2 – 4oC, Conventional Carbonation
Key Flavours: Big Rich malt, Biscuit Barrel Aroma
Alcohol %: 7.1 – 7.9%

 

 

[RP’s Creamy Ale]

Rich creamy beer with intense hop character match by a very malt palate. The innovative conditioning technique gives rise to an outstanding creamy smoothness, which marries the flavours. 

Served at 4 – 6oC, Nitrogenated
Key Flavours: Intense hop fruit, old leather 
Alcohol %: 4.9 – 5.2%

 

 

 

 

[Lionheart Light]

A crisp quenching filtered light beer. Beautifully balanced marriage of English Halcyon pale malt, Munich malt and German Hallertau hops. An excellent session ale with a lingering Hallertau aroma.

 Alcohol %: 2.8 – 3.1%

 

Russian Imperial Stout

 

[Russian Imperial Stout]

An extremely strong stout, both in alcohol and flavour. Dry fruit raison, dark chocolate and layers of molasses add to the rich roasted complexity. A perfect accompaniment to a cold winter evening.

Served at 8 – 10oC, Cask Conditioning

[Wobbly Boot Smokey Weizen]

Rauchbier or smokey beer as it is known originates from the Bamber region in Germany. The use of German smoked, chocolate and wheat malt in the grist combine to create a very distinctive flavour.

Served at 2 – 4oC, Conventional Carbonation
Key Flavours: Beech smoked malt, wheat.
Alcohol %: 5.3 - 5.6%

 

 

[Smith’s Special Bitter]

Using only the best English Halycon pale malt and East Kent Goldings hops. This full-bodied real ale purveys a generous malty palate and spicy hop finish.

Served at 8 – 10oC, Cask Conditioning
Key Flavours: Rich malt, Spicy Hops
Alcohol %: 3.9 – 4.2%

 

 

 

 

[Pass Porter]

First impressions are of dark chocolate notes and full malty middle palate followed by a lingering robust bitterness. Deceptively strong.

Alcohol %: 6.0 – 6.3%

 

 

 

[Autumn Pale]

An American Style pale ale. A mild malty palate makes way for a spicy hop aroma and crispy refreshing finish.

Key Flavours: Muted malt, spicy fruit hops.
Alcohol %: 4.3 - 4.6%

 

 

Gordon's Mild

 

[Gordon’s Mild]

Brown quenching cask conditioned real ale. Beautifully balanced marriage of Australian pale malt, roast and East Kent Golding hops. An excellent session ale with a long, smooth dry finish.

Served at 8 – 10oC, Cask Conditioning
Key Flavours: Muted Hops, Slight Roastiness
Alcohol %: 2.9 – 3.2%

Lachie's Ness Scottish Ale

 

[Lachie's Ness Scottish Ale]

A Scottish wee heavy somewhere between 80/- and 90/-. Dominant malt flavours from maris otter, chocolate, roast and smoked malts combine to purvey a very malty ale with a nice smooth finish.

Served at 2 – 4oC, Conventional Carbonation
Key Flavours: Intense malt, fruity esters.
Alcohol %: 5.5 - 5.8%
